On April 18, Mr. Zhao Yingmin, Secretary General of CCICED and Vice Minister of Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE), met with Hal Harvey, President of Climate Imperative, CEO of Energy Innovation: Policy and Technology LLC and council member of the CCICED Phase VII, in Beijing. The two sides exchanged views on topics of mutual interest, including carbon reduction, pollution reduction, green expansion and growth, policy research and international cooperation on the climate response.

Mr. Zhao Yingmin welcomed Hal Harvey on his engagement as a council member of the CCICED Phase VII, praised his active participation in the work of the CCICED, and briefed him on the recent progress of the work of the CCICED. Mr. Zhao pointed out that governments are currently facing multiple targets such as economic and social development, strengthening ecological and environmental protection, and addressing climate change. To meet those targets, governments need to coordinate policies in different areas and focus on implementation, identifying priorities and sequences. Moreover, technological innovation and closer international cooperation are also indispensable.

Mr. Harvey expressed his willingness to provide support for the synergy of carbon reduction, pollution reduction and green growth, policy research on climate change, overseas activities of the CCICED and capacity building of the Secretariat, and to contribute to promoting the dialogue and exchange between China and the US in the field of climate change and the environment.
