On February 2, 2026, Li Yonghong, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED) and Director-General of the Foreign Environmental Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, met with Lana Edwards, Director-General of Bilateral Affairs and Trade, Environment and Climate Change Canada and CCICED Special Advisor in Beijing. The two sides held in-depth discussions on CCICED's work arrangements for 2026, preparations for the CCICED Phase VIII, and future cooperation directions.

Li Yonghong extended a sincere welcome to Lana Edwards and introduced the plans for policy research and major events in 2026, and preliminary considerations for the CCICED Phase VIII. Lana Edwards welcomed further discussions on those areas. Both sides agreed that the recently issued Joint Statement following the meeting between Chinese and Canadian leaders clearly expressed the political willingness of both countries to deepen multilateral cooperation in the fields of environment and climate change. The two sides agreed to further strengthen regular communication and coordination under the framework of CCICED, strive to achieve more outcomes, and jointly contribute wisdom and strength to promoting global green and low-carbon transformation and sustainable development.
