The fifteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP15) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) will be held in Montreal, Canada, from December 7 to 19. Its new global strategy under development –the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework (“GBF”), provides a new opportunity and platform to adjust the relationship between man and nature and building a community of life on earth.
the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) was adopted in 1992. In the same year, the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED) was founded. At the 30th anniversary of CCICED’s establishment, a series of events during the second part of COP15 will be organized by CCICED, which is themed as China's Role in Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Development. Events will include a seminar on December 14, and a side event of COP15 on December 16.
On December 14, the discussions will feature CCICED’s ongoing research projects and explore enablers for rapid and effective implementation of the GBF, such as technical support, resource mobilization, international cooperation, etc. The sessions are expected to further build consensus and provide suggestions for the high-level segments of COP15 phase II.
Based on the discussions on December 14, the dialogue on December 16 will continue the CCICED’s legacy and global partnership and provide insightful solutions for the international community to embark on a new journey of global biodiversity governance.
