The meeting pointed out that the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China has made the construction of Chinese-style modernization the central task in the future, in which the fundamental and strategic position of ecological civilization is reflected in the basic features, essential requirements and goals of Chinese-style modernization, which provides fundamental direction and guarantee for green transformation. To achieve a green transition requires coordinated efforts on cutting carbon emissions, reducing pollution, expanding green development, and pursuing economic growth, on carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals, and on energy security, food security and supply chain security. It also requires reflections on how to strengthen partnerships and establish a multi-objective coordination mechanism. The CCICED needs to further bring into play its forward-looking, science-based, and comprehensive advantages in policy research, put forward high-quality policy recommendations as reference for relevant decision making by the Chinese government.
Participants conducted discussions on key issues including efforts on cutting carbon emissions, reducing pollution, expanding green development, and pursuing economic growth and high-quality development, financial innovation and green development, international climate governance and sustainable supply chains. The discussion aims to lay a foundation for improving reports, drafting policy recommendations for the Annual General Meeting, and designing future research work.
