MEP Minister Zhou Shengxian, who accompanied Premier Wen Jiabao to the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, met with Ms. Isabella Teixeira, Brazilian Minister for the Environment on June 21 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The two sides exchanged views on the UN conference and the bilateral cooperation in the environment field.

　　Zhou began by congratulations to the Brazilian Government on successfully hosting the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20 Summit), appreciated the contributions made by Brazil in the global sustainable development undertaking, and spoke highly of the bilateral cooperation in the environment field.

　　The two sides exchanged views on this conference, reviewed the bilateral cooperation in the fields of biodiversity and hazardous wastes, and exchanged views on further enhancing the cooperation on topics including the biodiversity. The two sides held that China and Brazil have conducted substantial cooperation and that they would enhance communications and conduct cooperation in the above-mentioned fields.
